En el aire había rumores sobre el tema, pero nadie sabía con exactitud la veracidad de dicha noticia. Se sospechaba que iba a ser en Abril, pero no había una confirmación oficial sobre el tema.
Pero sí, la 5ta Expo Tattoo de Montevideo se realizó la última semana de abril y el personal de MODart estuvo presente para cubrir el evento.
La edición, que se entiende como un adelanto de la Expo Tattoo que se da todos los años en el mes de octubre, contó con la presencia de varios artistas locales y nuevamente con la presencia de artistas extranjeros como: Clini Art Tattoo y Casa de Leoes de Brasil, Camilo Tuero y Cancerbero de Argentina, entre otros. También como en años anteriores, la misma se dio lugar en el edifico del INJU (Instituto Nacional de la Juventud), que en esta oportunidad se vio colmado de gente, principalmente el último día. El evento contó con los ya conocidos concursos y premios a los mejores tatuajes del día, mejor tatuaje Black and Grey, Old School y New School, así como también con la participación en la última noche de bandas en vivo.
Lo positivo de este tipo de acontecimientos es que nos permite estar al tanto de las actividades y desarrollo profesional de cada artista en su área, así como también de la movida local y un poco internacional. Es un hecho hoy en día ver mejores y elaborados trabajos, dado que el artista ya no se siente tan atrapado al simple duplicado de una imagen siendo más visible su toque personal y artístico en cada obra. El mundo del tatuaje está creciendo paulatinamente en Uruguay, con nuevos estilos como el New School, que han llegado para quedarse, pero seguimos siendo un mercado pequeño y carente de grandes ideas.
Hay mucho empeño y dedicación en cada edición del festival, pero continúa fallando en algunos puntos importantes, como ser la comodidad del artista, la distribución de cada stand y el enfoque del evento hacia un público en general en el que se pueda dar a entender la finalidad del mismo, las razones del porque el tatuaje es un arte consumado hoy en día y la apertura a nuevas disciplinas que envuelven al mundo del Arte Corporal.
El otorgamiento de seminarios acerca de estas y otras disciplinas serían una buena excusa para entrar de lleno a la cultura urbana y con ello acabar con el prejuicio, así como también responder las inquietudes que hoy en día se plantea la sociedad acerca de dicho arte. La falta de patrocinio y promoción logra que mucho de lo que se quiere hacer no salga como se desea, dado la falta de infraestructura y capital. El edificio del INJU ya queda chico y es hora de brindarle al artista las posibilidades de lucir al máximo su potencial y desempeño. Las ganas están, solo resta esperar por las ideas.

The past 9th to 11th of October, were the chosen days to carry out the 4th Uruguayan Tattoo Expo in the Instituto Nacional de la Juventud (INJU); at Montevideo, Uruguay. As previous editions, the organization was on behalf of Atipiko Tattoo and counted with the attendance of Uruguayan artists as well as from Argentina, Chile, Peru and Brazil. Among them stood out Guzman Tasende, Pablo Sequeira and Gabriel Callico (this last one as guest), from Uruguay; Cancerbero and Diego Aguirre (Sudaka Tattoo), from Argentina; Camilo Tuero from Peru/Argentina and Mauricio Meis and Regiany Schiestl (Cliniart Tattoo), from Brazil.
In difference from previous years, the lower level of the INJU was enabled, giving them space to include more artists. The different tattoo categories that competed were: Tattoo from the Day, realism, full color, black and grey, new school, comics and traditional.
Despite weekend’s bad weather, the convention had great attendance from a range of people that were going to get their first tattoo to curious ones; accompanied by the sound of constant electronic music.

Between the 16th and 18th of October, took place the 13th International Tattoo Convention at the “Espaço das Américas” in São Paulo, Brazil.
As previous years, it was organized by Led’s Tattoo and counted with the presence of more than 100 artists from Brazil, Argentina, Germany, Peru, Italy, United States, Israel, Australia, Spain and Venezuela.
From the 13 categories that participated for the final award, the main ones were realism, black and grey, new school and the new category for best Brazilian cultural tattoo.
The big winners were Formiga D’Agua and Mazox e Giscard.

El sábado 17 de Octubre se dio en la ciudad de San Pablo la segunda edición de Frrrkcon. Los organizadores del evento, Luciano Iritsu y T. Angel siguieron los mismos principios que dieron origen al evento del año pasado, o sea, promover y crear una reflexión acerca de la modificación corporal en Brasil.
Por ser un evento explícitamente nuevo, el modelo de construcción del mismo sufrió algunas alteraciones y sin duda alguna sufrirá tantas otras hasta llegar a ser aquello que ellos desean llamar “escenario ideal”.
El evento había sido dividido en dos partes, con atracciones para todos los gustos. La primera parte de Frrrkcon 000.2 se sucedió en Iritsu Tattoo Shop, con una serie de conferencias y debates.
La antropóloga carioca Claudia Machado abría el evento con su conferencia sobre las “Perspectivas antropológicas del cuerpo y del body modification”. Comentó acerca de su experiencia en el campo académico, marcó puntos bastante significativos sobre conceptos del body art y body mod e inclusive el papel de los medios de comunicación en la construcción de un pensamiento del cuerpo transmutado.
El segundo conferencista del día fue el body piercer y vicepresidente de SETAP (sindicato de tatuadores de Brasil) Ronaldo Sampaio (Snoopy). El mismo abordó brevemente la historia de los adornos corporales para luego enfocarse en la reglamentación de las profesiones del body piercer y tatuador. Además Snoopy expresó de forma bastante clara algunas cuestiones referentes a la bioseguridad, métodos de trabajo, riesgos y cuidados y demás asuntos que son de gran importancia para los profesionales del área.
Para finalizar la serie de conferencias del primer día, les tocó el turno al brasilero André Fernandes, el argentino El Rata y el chileno Fingaz para una charla sobre sus carreras, experiencias y conocimientos.
La segunda parte de Frrrkcon 000.2 aconteció en el Inferno Club de San Pablo.
Con la presencia y actuación de diversos DJ’s, los distintos performers comenzaron a suspenderse por un lado, mientras que por el otro la exposición de arte de diversos tatuadores llenaba toda una pared con una multiplicidad de estilos capturando la atención de los que allí estaban presentes.
Uno de los momentos más esperados de la noche fue el freak show del artista Freak García. Su show, llamado 100 cortes (que en portugués se entendería como sin cortes) contaba con la manipulación y utilización de fuego, agujas, ganchos, clavos, vidrios, cuchillos, etc.
En esta edición de Frrrkcon pasaron por el evento alrededor de 600 personas de distintos países y la intención de los organizadores es poder perfeccionar, evolucionar y tener un evento cada vez mejor y de mayores proporciones.
